Mark's 1934 Harley-Davidson CAC Speedway Racer

Gentlemen,
Here is a photo of a 1934 Harley-Davidson CAC Speedway Racer. Joe Petrali designed and built 12 of these in the H-D factory on weekends when regular production was stopped and with his own crew.
There will be one up for auction at the Las Vegas auction Jan. 6, 7, & 8th, 2011. I have heard there are no more than 9 left, maybe fewer.
16.5 : 1 compression, 500cc. The JAP motor's where too strong and this bike was discontinued after one year.
Can't wait for my order, see ya!

When you think about barn find fire trucks, do you ever think they'd be in a 1912 fire station in Pakistan? Two were! Stored since the late 60's

The short person in white is Maureen Lines, http://www.hindukushconservation.com/maureen_lines.html and she is quite possibly the person most to thank for the fire trucks coming into the light for the first time in over 4 decades. She made the right contacts in the Pakistani government to see that the 2 fire trucks were made available to restorers like Romano!

I believe she concieved the idea to have the fire engines added to the National Heritage Trust, and she asked the Highway patrol to bring in heavy moving equipment to persude the fire engines to roll out of their long hibernation

The above tag has a bit of historical perspective... the Selden company patented the automobile. He collected on every car made... 0.75%

Selden was a patent attorney. His dad was a judge, and a prominent Republican attorney most noted for defending Susan B Anthony.

Yeah, it obviously didn't stand up very long, but for a time, they had the patent on the automobile, and if you wanted to sell a car in America, you either paid a licensing fee or fought them in court.

Henry Ford fought them in court and won... he was obviously better prepared to make a success and a fortune that he'd share with the US Govt by way of taxes, so the right people were persuaded to take the patent of the automobile, and make it go away... the reason given was that the Ford and other cars were using an engine based on a different engine than Selden had patented. http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2007/05/spooky-no-traction-sliding-on-ice-as.html

No doubt about it, those are non skid tires! Tire tread wasn't very advanced at the time.
